Wellbeing - central to CyG

WELLBEING

Class teachers are responsible for the pastoral care of children in their particular class.  However, it is the responsibility of the whole school to ensure that children are happy and secure in school.

Our Pastoral Lead at Coed-y-Garn is Mrs Hampton.

We understand that how we behave is linked to how we feel, and that our emotions are linked to how we learn.  It is important that children recognise their feelings and emotions, and learn ways of responding appropriately.  Children sometimes need extra support with their emotional growth - this can be temporary or on-going over a longer period of time.

At Coed-y-Garn our approach promotes emotional and social growth by building positive relationships between a child and their peers, and between a child and familiar adults; sessions help to explore and understand feelings through various activities, incorporating a variety of practical strategies and techniques designed for emotional and social development.

Every class hosts a Wellbeing Day, be it a Muddy Monday,  Well-being Wednesday or Fabulous Friday.

Some situations, such as having difficulties with making or sustaining friendships, or finding it hard to settle or play with others, can lead to many different feelings which may seem overwhelming at times. They might include: anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, confusion or anxiety.  All of these feelings are very normal and happen to many children. Our wellbeing sessions are designed to help children learn to manage their feelings and teach them strategies that will help promote their learning.
