SAFEGUARDING
CHILD PROTECTION
Our child protection programme supports each child’s development in ways which foster security, confidence and independence.
The school has a duty of care and the responsibility to take reasonable action to ensure the welfare and safety of its pupils.
If a member of staff has cause to be concerned that a pupil may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or any other form of abuse, the school will follow child protection procedures and inform social services of its concern. This could involve a visit to the child’s home by a social worker.
In such instances the school must place the welfare of the child above all other considerations and it may be necessary to inform agencies without first discussing the matter with parents.
The Designated Safeguarding Person is Mrs Cairns, Headteacher. She is supported by the SLT.
FAMILIES FIRST
We have close links with the Families First team who offer support to families. Our team member, Ashleigh Edwards, is based at Coed-y-Garn on a weekly basis. Alternatively they can be contacted at the Heart of the Valleys Integrated Children’s Centre, High Street, Blaina.
FAMILIES AND SCHOOLS WORKING TOGETHER
At Coed-y-Garn we believe that it is vital to work in partnership with families for the benefit of the child.
OPERATION ENCOMPASS
Operation Encompass is a police and education early information sharing partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support for children and young people experiencing domestic abuse.
