ALN

At Coed-y-Garn Primary School, staff strive to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all our pupils. As a starting point, we use the National Curriculum for planning that meets the specific needs of individual and groups of pupils. Through effective planning and quality first teaching, teachers set suitable learning challenges and respond to pupils’ diverse learning needs. Pupils who have barriers to learning may mean they have needs that are additional to and different from their peers and require targeted provision by the school and specialised support through external agencies.

The ALN Reform Bill

Since September 2021, there have been changes made to the way Special Educational Needs (now referred to as Additional Learning Needs) is implemented in schools. We have already started making changes, e.g. in the way that meetings are held with parents and pupils.

The new recommendations are implemented in line with Blaenau Gwent Local Authority and Welsh Government guidance. If necessary, you will be informed of the changes and how they affect your child by your child’s class teacher and our Additional Learning Co-ordinator (ALNCo): Mrs. Hannah Edwards.

To read more about these changes for yourself, please visit the websites below, where the main aims of the Reform Bill are outlined. Once the Reform Bill draft is finalised, a revised link will be posted for you.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Mrs. Edwards on 01495 290044.
